Union dispute put Presidential debate in question

Democratic candidates refuse to cross picket line

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY) - The status of next Thursday's Democratic Presidential debate remains uncertain. All seven qualified candidates have threatened not to attend.

Loyola Marymount University is scheduled to host the debate. The college has been locked in a labor dispute with its food workers union since March. They have yet to agree on the terms of a new contract.

Now the union says if it doesn't ink a deal with the university by next Thurday, its members will take to the picket line. And, if members take to the picket line, candidates say they will not cross it.

Senator Elizabeth Warren was the first to tweet her support for the union. By Friday, every Democratic candidate had followed suit and announced their solidarity with food workers in the event of a strike.

UCLA was originally selected to host the debate. Ironically, the Democratic party changed the location because that university is also involved in a labor dispute.
