Marroquin asks for your vote for El Centro City Council
"A city isn't a city without a downtown and our downtown is declining..."
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Sylvia Marroquin wants to serve her hometown and the people who live there. That's why Marroquin's running for El Centro City Council.
Marroquin is currently a business manager at a local private school. Born and raised in the El Centro, she tells us she's concerned about the growing homeless crisis, and the shrinking number of businesses in the downtown area.
Marroquin has a background in finances and has worked with small businesses for over 25 years.
“Umm the pandemic has really affected our local businesses to the point where they will need not just immediate help but long term help,” said Marroquin.
Marroquin says El Centro’s downtown needs to be revitalized.
“The downtown area will attract new businesses and even bringing more arts and culture into our downtown area because you know a city without a downtown isn’t a city.”
Another issue she wants to focus on is eradicating homelessness.
“Another concern here is the homeless population and this is a struggle for every city not just here in El Centro, so one of the things I’d like to see is how can we help the homeless population here we greatly need a shelter here," she said.
Marroquin says above all she wants people to vote this coming November.
