Saudis accused of recruiting Twitter employees
Federal prosecutors say the Saudi government recruited two Twitter employees to get their critics’ personal information.
A complaint unsealed Wednesday in federal court in San Francisco details an effort by Saudi officials to enlist workers to mine sensitive information from thousands of social media accounts.
Documents show the accounts targeted include that of a popular journalist with more than a million followers, and those belonging to prominent government critics.
Prosecutors say the Saudis rewarded Twitter employees for information with expensive designer watches and tens of thousands of dollars funneled into secret bank accounts.
