“I think it was the hardest day of my life,” said Veronica Torres.

Torres’s son Ramon, was just one year when he was diagnosed with cancer.

” All of a sudden he was sick, he would wake up at night crying, and we didn’t know why. We took him with several doctors who prescribed him with antibiotics, but nothing was making him better. ”

Ramon finally had a blood test. Initially, doctors told veronica to not worry, that cancer had been ruled out.

“But the next day the oncologists arrived, and they told us yes, that it was cancer,” said Torres.

It was a friday when the Torres family received the news that their baby had acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

The following Tuesday Ramon received his first treatment of chemotherapy.

After six months of treatment, the doctors said he was free of cancerous cells.

“They cure him of one thing but then new complications arise, like his liver,” said Torres.

It’s been almost two years of doctor’s visits and treatment for Ramon and his health is finally looking better.

” He has a strength that even one as an adult doesn’t have. He fights for his life every day, ” said Torres.

Through it all, Torres says, Ramon has remained a happy baby. She says he has a contagious smile that attracts people to him.

Torres said Bailando por un Sueno has been a blessing to her family. She said the organization has helped her through some of the toughest times.
