ORIGINAL STORY

Arizona Public Service is steadily restoring power to homes and businesses across Yuma County.

The lights started going out shortly after a powerful thunderstorm hit the area around 7:00 Monday night.

APS says the storm knocked down a major line and plunged thousands of homes into the dark.

At the height of the storm, more than 14-thousand customers lost power.

As of 9:30 p.m., it’s been restored to nearly 5,000.

APS hopes to have the power back up and running everywhere by 11 tonight.
