IVROP holds leadership training for local students

Nearly a dozen student leaders from the Imperial County were chosen to participate in a leadership training organized by Imperial Valley Regional Occupational Program ( IVROP ).

Students who attended Wednesday’s training all play an important role on their campus as student representatives.

“We want to build networks and a sense of community because regardless of being from different schools, being from different clubs we’re all Imperial Valley,” said Adriana Hernandez, IVROP Educational Service Program Manager.

Hernandez said this is the first step in ensuring our valley’s youth grow up to be outstanding citizens in the community.

” To build global citizens that are productive, responsible and caring, and that they grow up healthy as well. This is a great step for them to do that, ” said Hernandez.

Students participated in different pieces of training that included topics about teamwork, communication, and resilience.

They even took a social media course to help them market and promote their campus clubs.

“It’s important that they understand that they all have different strengths and weaknesses that they can draw upon each other to build a better team,” said Gerardo Roman, Calexico High School 9th Grade Campus teacher.

“They also see the need that it is for them to get involved, that they can not just go to school and come back, but that they need to get involved,” said Roman.

School administrators thanked the IVROP program for their hard work today.

They said it’s not every day that their students get to take part in leadership trainings like this one.
