DUI crash victim promotes message Don’t Drink and Drive

Holtville resident Josue Diaz visited the area, five miles east of town, where he lost an arm in a DUI crash when he was just two years old.

” I was sitting in the back seat with my brother. He said, there was an 18-wheeler coming this way. A truck. A big semi-truck. And the driver started playing chicken with the 18-wheeler, ” Diaz said.
Diaz believes a family member was behind the wheel the day of the crash. He said the driver had been drinking. His brother tried to save him.

” All he can remember is us rolling over three, four times. We rolled over. He quickly got me. He said he tried to hold onto me tight. But I flew out of the back window, ” Diaz said.

Now 34 years later, he’s printing dozens of shirts hoping to make a difference.

“It’s okay to have a drink, but, hey, tell your girlfriend, your wife or your friend, hey, can you pick me up?” Diaz said.

His condition has made him endure bullying and severe emotional pain throughout his life, all because of a drunk driver.

” I would ask myself , why me? Why am I missing an arm? Every day of my life I’ve woken up in the middle of the night having nightmares and I don’t even know from what. ”

He’s forgiven the driver. And now he’s focusing on saving others.

” We all make mistakes. I understand that. Let’s just not repeat them, ” Diaz said.

Diaz can be contacted at his Facebook page for more information on his message and his t-shirts.
