Former San Luis HS guard accused of having sex with student pleads not guilty

A San Luis High School security guard accused of having sex with a student pleaded not guilty in her arraignment Monday.

An attorney from the public defender’s office was appointed to represent Lizbeth Gomez-Coronel.

Yuma Union High School District (YUHSD) took immediate action by firing that employee in August.

The school district confirmed San Luis administrators and district office personnel informed the San Luis Police Department (SLPD) of information that led to the arrest of the security guard.

According to public records, Gomez-Coronel is charged with the crimes of:

Count one: sexual exploitation of a minor; Count two: sexual conduct with a minor; and Count three: sexual conduct with a minor.

Following the incident, the school district released a statement saying in part:

“The health and safety of all Yuma Union High School District students is a primary and most important value of all board members and staff at the district. We will continue to do our utmost to provide a safe learning environment for all students.”

Gomez-Coronel is expected to be back in court for a case management conference on October 10.
