Border Patrol Makes Meth Arrest at I-8 Checkpoint

U.S. Border Patrol agents arrest a Mexican national after they say they found more than 26-pounds of methamphetamine hidden in his car’s gas tank.

It happened Tuesday at the Pine Valley checkpoint along Interstate 8 near Campo.

Agents say a drug-sniffing dog alerted them to the hidden meth. They say further inspection led them to 20 plastic-wrapped bundles floating inside the tank.

The meth weighed more than 26-pounds and had a street value of more than 60-thousand dollars.

Since October, San Diego Sector Border Patrol agents have seized more nearly four-thousand pounds of meth valued at more than $9-million.
