Military Matter: Latest in modern warfare

In Military Matters, one of the nation’s premiere testing facilities rests in our very own backyard. Yuma Proving Ground not only tests military hardware for the U.S. But, it tests for the nation’s allies; Earlier this month the Royal Air Force along with the Australian Royal Air Force and the U.S. Marine Corps were all on hand for a special demonstration.

General Atomic Aeronautical System Inc. gave a flight demonstration of the MQ-9B SkyGaurdian the platform UAV for the Royal Air Force’s Protector RG MK1 . The SkyGuardian has several revolutionary capabilities including automatic takeoff, landing, and taxing. The Protector is also capable of carrying a payload of Brimstone missiles as well as be used domestically to assist with natural disasters.

The test flight originated in Yuma and finished at an undisclosed location in Nevada. The UAV landed without any issues while being controlled via satellite from Yuma. The new attributes will be implemented to the Protector’s production which should be available in the near future.
