Vehicle crash in Somerton leaves 2 injured
A vehicle collision Friday morning left a woman and her eight-month-old child transported to the hospital after crashing at Avenue D and Main Street in Somerton , according to the Somerton Cocopah Fire Department ( SCFD ).
Upon arrival, firefighters said they found a black Chevrolet compact with substantial damage to its front end. The 35-year-old woman was still in the vehicle, and a bystander had removed an eight-month-old child from its car seat.
The driver stated she was wearing her seat belt during the impact and did not lose consciousness. The woman said she had abdominal, shoulder, and back pain, according to SCFD .
The other driver of the vehicle driving an F-750 Commercial Truck involved in the accident was out of his truck uninjured, other than a sore right arm and did not want to be evaluated.
The driver of the truck said he was traveling northbound on Avenue D when the black Chevrolet crossed into the intersection and struck his rear passenger side tire and rim.
SCFD said his vehicle spun and ended up approximately 50 feet north of the impact, facing south.
The woman was removed from her vehicle by SCFD personnel using cervical spine precautions. The eight-month-old child was taken in one SCFD ambulance while the woman was transported in a second ambulance.
According to SCFD , due to the severity of the collision, the ambulance transported emergency traffic to Yuma Regional Medical Center for further evaluation.
The Somerton Police Department provided traffic control and is investigating this collision.
