Yuma Sector BP agents apprehend multiple individuals in smuggling attempt

Multiple undocumented immigrants were apprehended by Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents after attempting to flee in a vehicle, including a previously deported criminal.

Agents said on July 11, a group of six undocumented immigrants were observed swimming northbound in the Alamo Pond when a Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations helicopter observed the individuals run northbound away from the pond and enter a vehicle parked on Algodones Road.

Agents attempted to perform a vehicle stop when the driver and the individuals allegedly fled on foot eastbound into the pond. Agents said they eventually apprehended the group of people who were all determined to be undocumented immigrants from Mexico.

During processing, agents identified one of the undocumented immigrants as a previously deported Mexican national with a felony conviction for possession of burglary tools out of Maricopa County in 2017.
