Police arrest Calexico resident for alleged attempted murder

A domestic fight between an ex-boyfriend and girlfriend turned ugly when the man beat her and choked her to the point where she blacks out, according to authorities.

Calexico police said when the victim regained consciousness, she went to the authorities to report the crime.

Sgt. Armando Orozco, of the Calexico Police Department, said, ” The victim came to the station that she had been involved in three incidents involved in domestic violence that caused her great bodily injury. They were visible at the time of the report. ”

Police arrested the ex-boyfriend just as he was crossing the border into Mexico.

Orozco said, ” Detention lookout was put out at the port of entry. And the subject was subsequently apprehended. ”

Authorities said the 59-year-old suspect is facing serious charges.

Orozco added, ” Attempted homicide. False imprisonment. There’s choking charged related to that. And domestic abuse. ”

Judith Klein-Pritchard, an official from Woman Haven which is a center for domestic violence victims, said it took courage for the victim to come forward.

Pritchard said, ” It takes bravery. It takes education. And knowing that this behavior from the perpetrator is completely out of line. ”

According to Pritchard, many domestic abuse incidents go unreported.

” The fear. The embarrassment. But also when there are children involved. How are the children going to be handled? Are they going to be taken away? ” Pritchard said.

Pritchard added that services are available for victims of domestic abuse.

” Call our offices. Come into our office. Everything you tell us is confidential and we’ll do what we can to help you. ”

The suspect was booked into the Imperial County jail with a bail of $50,000.

Anyone who is a victim of domestic violence can call the Woman Haven hotline at (760) 353-6922.
