Ways to plan for any emergency in Yuma

What would you do if the power was out? What would you do if the water was out? What would you do if you couldn’t occupy your home?

These are some questions Yuma Administrative Fire Officer Mike Erfert said everyone should ask themselves before a disaster. Erfert said that if it’s during or after an emergency, it’s already too late. That’s why it is so important to be prepared.

Whether we like it or not disasters happen anytime, anywhere, without warning every single day. While we can’t prevent these events from happening, we can change the way we handle things when they do happen.

Here are three important steps to keep in mind:

Having an emergency kit. Here is a general list of items when a natural disaster strikes.

Making a Plan. Figure out where you would go, who you would call, what you would take with you.

Being Informed. Yuma County Emergency Management’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) offers classes for Yumans to stay informed. Apply here.
