6.4 earthquake shakes Southern California

A Magnitude 6.4 earthquake was reported on Thursday morning about 11 miles from Ridgecrest, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake hit 120 miles northeast of Los Angeles in a remote area of the Mohave Desert, near Ridgecrest, Calif. There has been at least one fire reported in Ridgecrest that might be tied to the quake. The hospital there has also been evacuated. Reports of downed power lines are also coming in for that area.

The earthquake was felt in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, Fox News reported.

CNN reports there have been at least 73 aftershocks after Thursday morning’s earthquake. The quake was not on the San Andreas Fault
