Man suspected of assaulting police officer arrested

The San Luis Police Department arrested a suspect early Friday morning who was wanted for aggravated assault on a police officer.

San Luis police ( SLPD ) said detectives sought the suspect for one week and finally arrested him Friday in an undisclosed location in Yuma.

The suspect, 32-year-old Rafael Rivera Borjas , had shoplifted an electronic device inside Walmart a week ago and fled the scene.

Borjas was later spotted by San Luis police officers at the Chevron store by County 22nd Street and Main Street. At the gas station, an SLPD officer attempted to place him under arrest, which he resisted, and a physical altercation ensued, leading the suspect to flee.

Police confirmed the officer involved in the incident was not injured.

He faces charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, drug possession, and shoplifting.
