How to protect your child from predators in Yuma

Now that school is out, this means children are enjoying the outdoors by playing in the parks around the community. However, authorities are urging parents to be more vigilant with their small ones from possible child predators.

” They will target a child that’s unaccompanied, kids that are smaller, kids walking down the street alone, that go to the store or even leaving their houses, ” said Chief Richard Jessup , with The San Luis Police Department.

Chief Jessup said those predators use different tactics to reel children into their traps.

” They can go as far as giving the child money, giving them something to eat, promising them a treat if you take them somewhere or rewards, ” said Chief Jessup .

Authorities are advising both children and parents to be more vigilant when out in the parks or in public spaces to avoid possible incidents from occurring.
