Students allegedly found with fentanyl on campus make second appearance in court

The two 18-year-old students who are accused of having fentanyl at San Luis High School last week made their second appearance in Yuma Justice Court Monday to hear what formal charges they will be facing.

Justice of the Peace Gregory Stewart ordered Alessandra Cardenas-Hernandez’s release from the Yuma County Adult Detention Center Monday night because of her lack of prior criminal history.

Cardenas-Hernandez ‘ is now under her parent’s supervision until her next court date.

Cardenas-Hernandez is facing three felony charges, including possession of a narcotic in a drug-free school zone.

Judge Stewart detailed what the arresting officer said they found in Cardenas-Hernandez’ possession Wednesday.

” [It] was a Mexican dollar bill with [a] straw, both containing white residue. They alleged that the white residue was tested and allegedly confirmed positive for fentanyl , ” said Judge Stewart.

As part of Cardenas-Hernandez’s conditions of release, she cannot return to San Luis High School without the school’s consent, and she must undergo drug and alcohol tests.

Noemi Hernandez-Madrigal, the 18-year-old who was allegedly found with three bags for the deadly M30 pills, also made her second appearance and is now only facing three charges, including possession of a narcotic for sale.

She is being held on a $100,000 bond.

This is $50,000 less than the bond she was set by Justice of the Peace Juan Guerrero Thursday.

The two students were arrested along with a minor on Wednesday after San Luis police officers said they found the students in possession of more than 3,200 deadly M30 pills.

Cardenas-Hernandez’s preliminary hearing is set for June 25 while Hernandez-Madrigal’s preliminary hearing is set for June 14.
