ICFD investigates helicopter fire at Imperial County Airport

UPDATE: The Imperial County Fire Department and Office of Emergency Services said a CH53 Stallion military helicopter caught fire at the Imperial County Airport.

Crews received a call to respond at 1:06 p.m. of an aircraft on fire, ICFD said.

According to ICFD , the crews performed a quick knockdown of the aircraft and are currently in mop-up operations.

No injuries are reported and the fire is currently under investigation, ICFD said.

The 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing said the helicopter was coming in from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and was planning on landing at the Imperial County Airport.
