Woman arrested after allegedly leaving baby in her car

An El Centro mother was arrested for allegedly leaving her baby in her car while she shopped at Walmart.

According to the El Centro Police Department, the incident happened on Tuesday afternoon at the El Centro Walmart parking lot.

A Walmart employee said a couple was walking by, heard the child cry, and called the police.

The employee added they were calling for the owner of the car through the store’s loudspeaker for a while before the mother responded.

Police records state the car was not running and no windows were rolled down. Safety officials broke a window to get the baby out.

Police officials said the baby was about six months and was inside the car for at least one hour.

Child Protective Services were called to investigate the case and the mother was arrested and booked into Imperial County Jail.
