Affordable health services making its way to San Luis

The city of San Luis continues to grow in population, and with that growth comes the need for health care.

San Luis’ first Medical Mall is officially shovel-ready.

The groundbreaking ceremony held Thursday morning revealed the 64,000 square-feet of land that will be transformed into a $38 million dollar facility.

Funding for this project was courtesy of the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Office of Rural Development.

Anyone in the border community is welcome to receive affordable health and urgent care services.

However, the Regional Center for Border Health will be specializing in chronic care management in the San Luis area.

Regional Center for Border Health’s President & CEO, Amanda Aguirre, said that the Medical Mall will address, “diabetes, hypertension, obesity, childhood obesity…everything related to chronic care including the behavioral health components of those diseases that are affecting our communities.”

The Medical Mall will bring between 200 and 400 jobs and career opportunities to San Luis. The facility will be located on Avenue E at County 24th Street.

This project is expected to be completed by September 2020

In addition, the Regional Center for Border Health has partnered with Starbucks to open the first Starbucks location in San Luis, which will also have a drive-through window.
