ECRMC says it has ample bed space in spite of coronavirus cases
Hospital braces for surge following 4th of July celebrations
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - El Centro Regional Medical Center (ECRMC) says it has plenty of bed space, in spite of the rising number of coronavirus cases.
In an update Thursday morning, Dr. Adolphe Edward said ECRMC has space for both covid and non-covid patients. Dr. Edward says the hospital also has the staff it needs to care for all of its patients
However, the doctor says ECRMC has asked the county to provide an additional 28 beds by July 15. Edward predicts to see a spike in cases after the Independence Day holiday. He says the hospital is preparing for people to attend parties, abandon their masks, and ignore social distancing suggestions.
Dr. Christian A. Tomaszewski reassured people, in spite of the expected spike in cases, there is still plenty of room at the hospital for those who need its services. The doctors also had calming words for those fearful of coming to the hospital with coronavirus.
"A lot of patients are still getting transferred to other places, but only patients that really need to be transferred. I still want you to come to this hospital even though it's not COVID related." said Dr. Tomaszewski.
