Smugglers tossing kettlebell-shaped packages over the border

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - For a fourth time this month, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have intercepted kettlebell-shaped packages filled with methamphetamine.

Surveillance cameras position along the International Border Fence caught the smugglers in the act just before 5:30 Friday morning. T video showed drug-filled packages getting tossed over the wall. Agents responded to an area just east of the Calexico West Port of Entry and found four abandoned bundles of meth lying near the fence.

The packages had a combined weight of nearly five-pounds and an estimated street value of more than $8,700.

Agents turned the drugs over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

This is the fourth time this month El Centro Border Patrol agents have discovered drugs being thrown over the border in kettlebell-shaped packages. Agents made similar seizures on June 4th, 8th, and 10th.
