WINTERHAVEN, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Imperial County Sheriffs Office (ICSO) says they found the body of a man who fell in a canal a few days earlier.

A man in his mid-50's was with his family fishing last Thursday around 5 am when family members say he fell into the canal.

The family says as they were leaving and walked to the car, they heard a splash and realized one of their family members fell into the canal.

ICSO was called to the scene where an extensive search involving drones, divers, and boats was conducted with the help of Border Patrol, and the Imperial Irrigation District.

After 10 hours of searching for the man, the divers and drones were pulled back, but boats still traveled throughout the canal to search.

On Saturday, ICSO found a body matching the description of the missing man, washed up close to the Buttercup Dunes.

According to ICSO, coroners determined there was no foul play involved and the man passed away from drowning.
