Major surge in Yuma County coronavirus cases continues
County sees 200+ case spike on Sunday - 1000+ new cases for the week
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma County's surge in coronavirus cases gained momentum during the first week of June. The county's number of positive patients grew by more than a thousand between June 1 and June 7, adding 218 more cases on Sunday alone.
Statistics from Yuma County District Health (YCDH) show, beginning last Monday, new cases climbed by at least 100 every day, with Friday and Saturday hovering just below the 200 case mark. Cases surpassed that milestone Sunday.

Health officials have long predicted the number of cases would climb as testing became more available. Nearly 17,000 Yuma County residents have been screened for coronavirus as of Sunday afternoon.
Yuma County District Health also confirmed the deaths of three more patients on Sunday. That brings the total number of casualties in Yuma County to 32.
Once again the 20-44 year-old age group saw the steepest climb in cases. It continues to make up nearly half the cases in the county.
On a positive note, Yuma Regional Medical Center (YRMC) discharged 8 more patients from its coronavirus unit.
