IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY)-The Imperial County Board of Supervisors, Imperial County health officials, and local church leaders will provide an update for the reopening of retail businesses and places of worship.

California has now loosened up restrictions, allowing for retail stores and places of worship to reopen with social distancing measures in place.

New California guidelines say places of worship can open up with 25% capacity or a maximum of 100 attendees.

According to the county these are restrictions that can lead to serious COVID-19 surges in Imperial County.

Local church leaders in Imperial County have called for the reopening of churches, stating the services they provide are essential to the health and well being of their members.

Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in El Centro says they do not plan on opening up unless the diocese in San Diego permits it.

News 11's Gianella Ghiglino and 13 On Your Side's Alexandra Rangel will be going live at the Amended COVID-19 Health Order Announcement event in El Centro at 2 p.m.
