Tucson casinos to reopen with new measures in place

TUCSON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - After months of staying closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, Tucson casinos are planning to reopen as early as next week, with new safety measures in place.

Casino Del Sol in Tucson has announced an opening date of June 3, saying they are opening in a way that prioritizes safety and minimizes risk.

"We continue to use hospital grade disinfectant listed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as effective against COVID-19 in our cleaning processes, and have cleaned and sanitized the properties thoroughly," casino officials said in a press release.

Desert Diamond Casinos in Tucson plan to reopen shortly after, with a date set for June 5.

The casino's four locations in Tucson, Sahuarita, Glendale and Why will all perform temperature checks on guests, and the casino says masks will be provided.

Casino officials say the reopening of each location will happen in phases. "There will be some amenities that will remain closed and facility hours will be reduced to allow for cleaning," officials say.

There will also be a temporary capacity limit.

With these new procedures in place, guests will have to see how the casino experience is altered.
