Gym owner in Imperial loans equipment to community

EL CENTRO, Calif.(KYMA, KECY) -The Fitness Oasis Health club and spa is making sure it's members are able to weight train at home

Fitness equipment across the country has remained untouched and unused due to the stay-at-home orders that forced gyms to closed their doors in Arizona and California.

Dalia Rodriguez, owner of Fitness oasis health club and spa in Imperial and decided to loan out gym equipment to members and non-members so they could continue their fitness journey.

“Well, it came to me cause you know they closed us down march 19th and my objective was what am I going to do for my members I can’t leave them hanging I also knew people didn’t have equipment at home cause they come here so what  I did  was put up a post to our members on our Facebook, and whatever equipment they needed they could come to pick it up.”

Gym equipment also began to sell out online and in stores as soon as the pandemic hit the country.

“I did it to do it, and after the weekend it was like there is no gym equipment and I was like great I can really provide you with a service”

Dalia says she saw this as a way to help her community during these tough times.

“We’ve been here now 13 years so the community has been very good to me and I think in return you need to be good to the community of all the times people need exercise and good nutrition is now.”

Dalia is currently live streaming workout classes and she says anyone is still welcome to borrow gym equipment.

Gianella Ghiglino

Peruvian-born and LA raised Gianella Ghiglino joins the team from the San Fernando valley. “LA is the place that taught me how to breath and Peru is my breath.” She says she was inspired by the community she grew up in and began documenting her experience through poetry at the age of 7. “I wrote about everything I saw, felt and everything that inspired me.” When she entered High School she joined her school news station and realized that broadcast journalism allowed her to pursue her passion and her purpose all at once. Gianella attended Cal State Northridge and received a Bachelors degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Spanish Broadcast Journalism, and Political Science. She did several internships while in College but most notably interned for PBS’s local LA station for three years. “My purpose is to share my story and of those in my community, my passion is writing.”
