FT. LAUDERDALE, FL. (CNN)- The winningest head coach in NFL history, Don Shula, has died.

The Miami Dolphins say he died at his South Florida home Monday morning.

He was 90 years old and is survived by his wife and five children.

The team said in a statement saying, "Don Shula was the patriarch of the Miami Dolphins for 50 years."

The statement went on saying, "He brought the winning edge to our franchise and put the Dolphins and the city of Miami in the national sports scene."

Shula has the most career wins, at 347.

Only two other coaches have cracked 300.

The 1972 Dolphins, under his coaching, went undefeated for the season.

No other team before or since has accomplished that.
