Two Imperial County inmates test positive for virus
ICSO: All inmates housed in same unit to be tested
IMPERIAL, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Two inmates housed at the Imperial County Regional Adult Detention Facility have tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).
The Imperial County Sheriff's office (ICSO) says it became aware of the two infected inmates on April 26.
ISCO says both are now in isolation to avoid contact with other inmates and to reduce the chance of spreading the virus.
The first inmate's symptoms were detected during the booking process. ICSO says the inmate was immediately placed in the Medical Isolation Cell.
Sheriffs say the second inmate was in a housing assignment for several days before getting tested for coronavirus.
Due to the high risk of infection, ICSO says all inmates housed in the same housing assignment are now in quarantine and will continue to be observed by medical staff.
ICSO says coronavirus testing has been ordered for all inmates assigned to this housing unit. The housing is also in the process of professional sanitation before inmates are allowed back inside.
Imperial County says multiple best practice measures have been implemented in all County departments over the past several weeks to ensure the safety of all entering County facilities.
