Military Matters: Honoring Capt. Dakota Brandenburg
For today’s Military Matters, we honor Captain (Capt.) Dakota Brandenburg.
Capt. Brandenburg enlisted in the Marine Corps six years ago. He is assigned as a Station Comptroller at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma.
According to a press release provided from MCAS Yuma, Capt. Brandenburg’s prior duty stations include Camp Hansen in Okinawa where he served as the III Marine Information Group Comptroller.
As a comptroller, Capt. Brandenburg plans the budget for the entire air station, ensures that all funds are spent in accordance with the law, and ensures that buildings’ utilities are paid.
Capt. Brandenburg’s family emigrated from Germany following WWI, his grandfather, and great uncle both joined the Marine Corps. His great uncle fought the Japanese in the Pacific, and his grandfather fought in the Korean War.
Brandenburg decided to follow in their footsteps and says, “I chose to join the Marine Corps to keep alive our family tradition of service to this country.”
In his free time, Capt. Brandenburg enjoys doing yard work and performing maintenance and upkeep on his recently purchased house. He also enjoys loading and shooting his own ammunition.
