U of A suspends fraternity for hazing

A pledge claims a fraternity at the University of Arizona hazed him. Now the group’s under suspension.

The former student accuses U of A’s Theta Chi chapter of forcing him to do pushups on a floor covered in broken glass. He also claimed he suffered a chemical burn when brothers threw hot sauce in his eyes.

The fraternity’s been placed on interim suspension for violating the university’s hazing policies.

The Arizona Daily Star reports the student initially filed a claim against the school in August, then amended it in October to detail a pattern of physical and emotional abuse at the hands of Theta Chi’s brotherhood.

A university spokesperson declined to comment on the case.

Theta Chi’s national leadership says hazing is contrary to its mission. They are investigating and could revoke the chapters charter.
