Emergency declared in Yuma County due to coronavirus

No confirmed cases in Yuma

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY)-Yuma county leaders declared a state of emergency in Yuma as a proactive measure to combat coronavirus.

“We want to be able to respond accordingly. This is an evolving situation,” explained Diana Gomez, Director of the Health District.

Yuma County Health Department confirmed there are no presumptive positive cases in Yuma County and no confirmed cases of the coronavirus.

An emergency declaration gives Yuma County the ability to unleashing funds and even make major decisions.

On Thursday, Sunset Health confirmed a patient was seen at their San Luis clinic that met the criteria for more observation and testing for symptoms consistent with respiratory illness.

Unfortunately, Sunset Health said they cannot comment on anything further at this time so it is unclear whether the patient in question is in isolation while they wait for test results to come back.

Yuma county explained this.

"We have no confirmed cases," said Gomez. "I believe that [the information] was meant to calm the fears if you read all the way to the bottom it instructed the public the clinic was still open."

As far as the high volume of traffic between theU.S. and Mexico, the county said they are in contact with Mexican officials.

"As of this morning, I can confirm in our neighboring state Sonora, there are no confirmed cases,” said Gomez.
