Lower River Junkies host sixth annual charity golf tournament

KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - The Lower River Junkies brought the Yuma community together Saturday for their sixth annual charity golf tournament, raising funds for two local organizations.

The tournament was held at Mesa del Sol Golf Club, benefiting the K9 OPS Foundation and Yuma Young Guns.

Founded by Barry and Tanya McMillin in 2008, the Lower River Junkies describe themselves as a “philanthropic group with a river problem,” with a mission of giving back to the Yuma community.

Yuma Young Guns provides local youth with opportunities to compete in shotgun sports, while the K9 OPS Foundation supports law enforcement canine units throughout the area.

K9 OPS Foundation Vice President Mark Sims said the support from the Lower River Junkies has helped the organization provide local law enforcement canine units with the resources they need.

“The Lower Junkies is a great organization and they've been supporting us for years, and we appreciate that," Sims said. "And with their support, we're able to help our local community, our canine units here in the Yuma area, do the things that they need to do to help us be a safer community,”

Golfers also had the opportunity to compete for trophies and prizes donated by several local sponsors.

The annual tournament continues the Lower River Junkies commitment to supporting local organizations and making a difference throughout the Yuma community.
