A house fire breaks out after being struck by lightning in Massachusetts

ABINGTON, Mass. (NBC, KYMA) - A fire broke out following a lightning strike early Friday at a house in Abington, Massachusetts, while a family of four was home.

The Abington Fire Department and crews from several nearby departments were working hard to battle the flames Friday morning.

Fire Chief Jack Glynn says a tree in the backyard was struck by lightning, creating a two-foot wide trench that went from the tree to the house and Chief Glynn says that was most likely the cause of the fire.

Two adults and two children all made it out okay, according to Chief Glynn and no firefighters were injured.
