Yuma City Council testing new work session time

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Yuma City Council is moving forward with a three-month trial to change the time and location of its work session meetings.

Beginning in February 2027, work sessions will be held at 5:30 p.m. on the Monday before each regular City Council meeting.

Meetings will primarily take place in room 190 at Yuma City Hall.

Mayor Doug Nicholls said the change will give council members more time to prepare between meetings.

"The reason council wants to try moving the work session to Monday instead of Tuesdays. It gives us a little bit more time between the actual work council meeting and the work session," Mayor Nicholls explained. "So if there's more research that needs to get done or more discussions that need to happen with the applicants or whatever the situation is, it gives us that time."

The three-month trial will allow the city to evaluate whether the new schedule is more effective before deciding whether to make the change permanent.
