Arizona Western volleyball claims Region I Championship

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - The Arizona Western Matadors continued a championship-filled fall season, capturing the Region I volleyball title with a straight-set victory over Eastern Arizona on Wednesday night at The House.

Arizona Western entered the matchup with a chance to complete a clean sweep of Region I championships across all three of its fall programs. The Matadors delivered, defeating the Gila Monsters to claim the regional crown and earn a spot in the district championship later this week.

The Matadors set the tone early, taking the opening set 25-16 before carrying that momentum into the second. Eastern Arizona proved to be a tougher challenge in the following frame, but Arizona Western came through in the closing moments to secure a 25-23 victory and take a two-set advantage.

The third set continued to feature plenty of back-and-forth action as both teams battled to close out the match. Arizona Western ultimately found a way to finish, earning another 25-23 win to complete the straight-set sweep.

With the victory, the Matadors are officially Region I champions and will now turn their attention to the district championship later this week. Their opponent has yet to be determined.
