New screwworm case detected in Arizona

PHOENIX (KYMA) - The Arizona Department of Agriculture announced its first reported animal case of New World screwworm.

New World screwworm is primarily an infestation linked to animals, and there have been no human cases reported in the U.S. up to date.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department is monitoring the situation and will continue to coordinate and prepare the health of Arizona residents.

The risk to the general public remains low.
