Severe storms in The Four Corners region of the southwest causing hundreds of rescues

(CBS, KYMA) - The Four Corners region of the southwest U.S. is recovering from last week's severe storms, but more are on the way.

First responders conducted hundreds of rescue operations across Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah.

The swollen San Juan river flooded entire neighborhood and a tornado also hit Santa Fe for the first time in more than 30 years.

Navajo nation officials say more than 1,000 of their residents are affected by water damage, including about 500 homes. Several bridges crossing the river remain closed.

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-N.M.) said people in evacuation zones are not being allowed back to their homes until another storm passes later this week.
