Protesters in Minnesota disrupt city council meeting on data centers

HERMANTOWN, Minn. (CBS, KYMA) - On Monday evening, a scheduled city council meeting in Hermantown, Minnesota had to be adjourned and rescheduled due to disruptions from a large group of protesters.

Hermantown city leaders were supposed to vote on a series of measures that would clear the way for Google to build data centers in the area.

According to NBJR, protesters linked arms blocking access to the building. Police were eventually called, although no arrests were made.

Hermantown City Councilor Andy Hjelle condemned the protests in a statement, saying, "Shouting down a public meeting to the point where our police officers had to declare an unlawful assembly is completely wrong."

The meeting was rescheduled to Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Central time.
