Southwest secures team girls golf IVL Championship

BORREGO SPRINGS, Calif. (KYMA) - Southwest High School took home the team championship in Imperial Valley League girls golf at Rams Hill Golf Course after completing an undefeated season in league play.

The Eagles' dominant run throughout the season helped them secure the top spot as they now turn their attention to the CIF Championship play-in round.

Southwest will face San Marcos High School and Sweetwater High School as it looks to advance in postseason competition.

Head coach AJ Escalera credited his team's challenging schedule and preparation for its success, saying the group was ready for the competition ahead.

“They played pretty much a college-type of schedule,” Escalera said. "I knew what kind of group I had this year. They were able to handle it. They are the most prepared as they have been in the past, and just looking at the yardage, we have overprepared for that yardage. So I'm comfortable in that sense.”

The CIF Championship play-in round is scheduled for tomorrow at The Links at Lakehouse in San Marcos, where the Eagles will look to continue their successful season.
