Imperial County heath officials warn residents about Aedes aegypti mosquitoes

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA) - Imperial County Public Health officials are warning residents about mosquitoes that can transmit disease-causing viruses.

Aedes aegypti mosquitoes have been detected in several locations, including Calexico, Brawley and Heber.

The mosquitoes can transmit viruses that cause diseases such as dengue.

The Imperial County Public Health Department is urging residents to remove standing water around their homes, wear loose-fitting, long-sleeved shirts and pants, and apply insect repellent.

If anyone notices unusually high mosquito activity around their home, contact the county's Vector Control Program.
