President Trump announces $8 billion in farm relief

Max Pixel

(CNN, KYMA) - President Donald Trump has announced a new $8 billion aid package for farmers.

This comes as Republican candidates are facing much tighter elections in much of the country.

Heavily agricultural states are frequently also the ones that have strong histories of electing republicans.

However, that support could be at risk as farmers face soaring fertilizer and diesel costs due to the war in Iran.

The aid will come as a one-time payment to farmers, just like the similar $12 billion package in December.

That one was meant to help farmers who were hurt by trade disputes sparked by President Trump's tariffs.
