Singer D4VD pretrial status hearing scheduled

LOS ANGELES (NBC, KYMA) - Singer D4VD, charged with the murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, is due back in court in January as the case moves toward trial.

A judge has scheduled another status conference for January 11 in the murder case against singer D4VD, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke.

The 21-year-old has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from the 2025 death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose remains were found in the trunk of his Tesla at a Hollywood tow yard.

Burke was arrested April 16 and is being held without bail.

He faces a capital murder charge, along with allegations of lying in wait, murder for financial gain and killing a witness in a criminal investigation.

He is also charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14 and mutilation of human remains.

In July, Los Angeles county superior court judge Charlaine Olmedo ruled that sufficient evidence had been presented during a preliminary hearing to allow the case to proceed to trial.

Burke is now represented by attorneys from the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office, after three private attorneys withdrew from the case in August.

Prosecutors have not announced whether they will seek the death penalty.
