Ohio congressman on President Trump endorsement and Starshield

WASHINGTON (CBS, KYMA) - Rep. Mike Turner (R-Ohio) spoke with Margaret Brennan on Face the Nation Sunday about getting endorsed by President Donald Trump.

While Brennan said Rep. Turner was endorsed by the president, other Republicans running for office in Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan and Maine were said to have positioned themselves as independent of President Trump on some issues.

When asked if he felt it would help to create some distance, even though he was endorsed by Trump, the congressman said:

"I don't run with the president. I don't run from the president. It's one of the reasons why you have me on this show because of the fact that I have my own agenda, and I think what's important, as your pollster has indicated...he's talking of trends. What's most important, as he ended his presentation, as Anthony said, this is about who gets out to vote, and everybody needs to get out and vote. You know...my very first race, I won by 244 votes out of 44,000. It's really, really important as to who gets out and votes. So, my message would be to everyone, is to get out and vote. And also, when they go to the polls, they need to make certain that they vote in every race. It's amazing the number of drop-offs that people have as they go down the ballot. People need to vote in every race, and they need to get out and vote."

During the interview, Brennan and Turner talked about Starshield, which is said to be a military-grade low-Earth orbit satellite network developed by SpaceX in order to support national security, defense operations and government agencies.

According to Brennan, Ukraine uses it for communication as well as to control their drones.

While Secretary of State Marco Rubio said no one at the White House ordered it to be slowed down this week so that drones couldn't use it, Brennan said, "But effectively, that was the outcome."

"We had nothing to do with it...the United States, nobody ordered that Starlink speed to be slowed down. It sort of happened. But my understanding is it's been restored," Secretary Rubio further explained.

This prompted Brennan to ask the congressman if Rubio's "It sort of happened" comment was a sufficient explanation for him and others on the House Armed Services Committee, to which he said:

"Absolutely not. I mean, this is something where there needs to be an investigation. There needs to be a congressional investigation. I mean, this is one of those things where we see that policies occur where sometimes there's breaks in weapon systems that are supposed to be sent to Ukraine that doesn't happen, where monies...don't arrive, where intelligence gets broken, where then later that we have- find, you know, unnamed people in the Pentagon perhaps break it. There needs to be an investigation. We need to find out who these people are because lives are at risk and lives are lost over these things. And even today, you know, the Institute for the Study of War reports today and Zelenskyy reports that, you know, perhaps it's spotty. There are areas where that it's restored, and there are areas where perhaps it is not. People's lives are at risk, and this is within Ukraine. This is areas where they're trying to defend themselves. This is essential to the United States support of Ukraine in defending real aggressive attacks by Russia within Ukraine, and this needs to be restored."
