Firefighters battle fire at Camp Pendleton

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - A brush fire on U.S. Marine Corps Camp Pendleton sparked in California Thursday, and quickly spread to over 1,400 acres as dry and hot Santa Ana Wind conditions help to fuel the fire.

The blaze, dubbed the Henderson Fire, started around 2 p.m. Pacific and, thanks to gusty wind conditions, began to quickly spread.

According to a nonprofit fire tracking site, the growing fire prompted some evacuations on the military base.

It also prompted power outages and road closures, including the Interstate 5 Freeway.

At least three air tankers and several ground crews with Camp Pendleton Fire Department were responding to the fire.

Santa Ana Winds have the potential to spark and quickly spread wildfires amid hot and dry conditions.

Residents in the area have been urged to use precaution amid these conditions.

As of Friday, it remains at 0% contained. To keep up-to-date on the fire, click here.
