Imperial County D.A.’s Office receives grant for new software

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif.- The Imperial County District Attorney's office announced it has received a grant from Sun Community Credit Union to purchase new software designed for law enforcement and prosecutors.

The software uses artificial intelligence to help search, organize, and analyzr evidence, including police reports, transcripts, and case files.

George Marquez, Imperial County's District Attorney says this will help increase the bandwith of the office's prosecutors.

"Let's say for example; we have 10,000 pages and documents. It'll help analyze it. It'll give us a timeline and give us transcripts. It could tell us also where there's inconsistent statements where. For example, a suspect in a case may be lying," Marquez told Channel 11 in an interview.

Marquez thanked Sun Community Credit Union for the three-year grant, which made the program possible.

"I was looking for ways of paying for this. And of course the county right now, the resources aren't where I'd like them to be," Marquez said.

"So I had a meeting with Sun Community, their management, and their CEO and president Patrick Kerry," Marquez explained.

He said, he initially requested a one year grant.

"They took it to their board and they come back, they came back and they told us they were going to fund it for three years," he said.

Marquez added that any information will be verified by a human, stating, "I'm very big on ethics. So it's going to help us, but we have to verify that everything that we've put into court is the right information."
