Oprah Daily editors write book to demystify menopause and its impact on women’s health

(CBS, KYMA) - A new guide from the editors of Oprah Daily is demystifying menopause and its impact on women's health.

"The Book of Menopause: Real Talk, Real Science, Real Strategies for Your Next Chapter" examines the many ways menopause affects a woman's body through the lens of hormonal health.

During menopause, ovarian estrogen production drops sharply, which, for most women, can trigger symptoms like hot flashes, vaginal dryness, anxiety, brain fog, and depression, but health experts said that doesn't mean you have to suffer.

"When they have that moment of I don't feel like myself, they need to pay attention to that and not just understate the symptoms," said Pilar Guzmán, Editorial Director for Oprah Daily.

"There is no suffering Olympics. You don't get a medal at the end because you suffered for 10 years and someone suffered for a month," said Dr. Sharon Malone, board-certified OB/GYN & certified menopause practitioner. "And I'm here to tell women that at menopause you don't have to."

The book also evaluates hormonal and non-hormonal treatments that can help improve menopause symptoms, and explore ways that men can support the women in their lives through this transition.

"The Book of Menopause: Real Talk, Real Science, Real Strategies for Your Next Chapter" was released Tuesday. It is out in stores and online.
