Gardener saves California woman from house fire

MISSION VIEJO, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - A California family is crediting a gardeners quick actions for saving the life of a woman and her two dogs after a fire broke out in her garage.

The heroic gardener, whose name was not disclosed, was working on the family's yard Thursday morning in Mission Viejo when the fire suddenly erupted.

Security camera video from the home showed flames raging inside the garage and smoke creeping from it, catching the gardener's attention.

After taking notice, the gardener, joined by a neighbor, immediately rang the doorbell of the home to alert the occupants inside.

Joanna Gonzalez, whose mother was sleeping inside the house at the time, said the gardener's actions woke up her mother, who made it safely outside along with her two dogs.

The gardener also hosed the garage down until firefighters arrived.

While the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, the family believes it was caused by the explosion of an e-bike's battery that was charging.
