Arrest made in connection to February mass shooting in Canada

BRITISH COLUMBIA, Canada (NBC, KYMA) - A Washington resident was arrested and charged Tuesday in connection to a deadly mass shooting at a Canadian school earlier this year.

James Cody Bryant, 30, is charged with conspiracy to murder persons in a foreign country and for working with the gunman to livestream the February attack at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School that left eight people dead.

According to the indictment, Bryant, who identifies as female, also provided the shooter with money and advice, including what shoes to wear during the shooting and how to start their car in order to drive to the school.

Officials said said Bryant had multiple opportunities to report the shooting before it happened.

"We learned that a person here in western Washington had been in repeated contact with the shooter, offering advice, sending money, and even agreeing to livestream the horrific event. Thirty-year-old James Cody Bryant had the information and ability to alert law enforcement and even discussed that possibility with the shooter, but he chose not to. Instead, he encouraged and offered assistance to a murderer."

"Today, Bryant is in custody, charged with conspiracy to murder people in a foreign country. That charge carries a penalty of up to life in prison," said Neil Floyd, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington.
